Did rather well at this years Easter Show. Picked up a First, a Third and two Merits. On top of that, all bar one piece sold at the Show. The general consensus was that the level of competition was very high again this year.

So for me picking up a First in Small Bowls, was very special. They were as identical as I could get them, 1.7mm wall thickness, 240mm diameter. Even the weight was within 0.5gram even considering the difference in sap and heart wood. African Rosewood is the timber. I started these as a study for a 450mm platter of the same plank. I wanted to see which up I should make the rim. I’ve decided on the heartwood (dark Red) as the rim and the sapwood (pale colour) as the bowl part

The Supreme Exhibit in Show was Awarded to Gordon Pembridge with "African Dream". Absolutely gorgeous piece of work that commanded a lot of well deserved attention.

On Sunday I was one of the demonstrators, a lot more fun than this expression would indicate :). That is a small Pohutukawa platter. I also made spinning tops for the kids and I stopped counting after 30 of them.
